I have been meaning to write to you for sometime now with regard to Julia’s support to the Company, which has now reduced significantly.

As you know, the accounts systems here had got into a terrible muddle before I was appointed. I was extremely grateful to you for making her services available to me at such short notice.

We had to bring some order and discipline to the finance department. Julia was instrumental in achieving this. In addition to reinstating regular reconciliation’s, timetables and documentation of procedures she helped to train and supervise the staff. This enabled the team to work with more confidence and deliver to predetermine timescales.

More recently, Julia helped implement the new accounting software, including liaison with the software consultants and assisted me with the restructuring of the staffing of the department.

We were contacted early in 2000 by Hornbeam, who asked if they could visit us with a view to compiling our Accounts. There was no obligation, no charge, so we said – OK come if you wish – but we have used the same firm of Accountants for over twenty years.

Phil Needham duly arrived and we introduced him to our Pig’s Breakfast! This was a jumble of files and entries – mostly incorrect – on our computer, and our annual returns, at the time, were almost two years out of date. Much to our surprise he said he could straighten this all out and an even greater surprise was the fee which would be charged for doing it. Outstanding papers were immediately rescued from our then Accountants and a big heap of stuff was delivered to Rackheath. A few exploratory and explanatory phone calls followed and our yearly accounts duly arrived, completed, in a few weeks.

During the last twelve months, Mr Needham has visited us on a few occasions gradually straightening out (and not least explaining) the whys and wherefores of our previously incomprehensible computer accounting system. We now have accurate, up to minute figures on our computer – and recourse to expert advice at any time! In addition, and not least, this service is delivered at a fraction of the cost of our previous Accountants.

I thought I would drop you a line to say thank you for what you are doing for me and long may it continue. When I reflect upon the mess I was in with my accounts and the problems I had with the Inland Revenue due to my previous accountant, incomplete Tax Returns submitted, etc (considering that he was previously a Tax Inspector he should have known better), my stress levels have dramatically decreased since I met you and our firm began to sort out my affairs.

My two year investigation with the Revenue was very painful and the amount I had to pay them at the end of it all would have been much more, I am convinced, without your timely intervention on my behalf and I was more than pleasantly surprised when I received a tax rebate last year, almost equal to the amounts I was fined.

Imagine my elation when another rebate arrived the other day due to your application of another loophole you were able to exploit on my behalf. My gratitude to you and Jane and your team at Hornbeam is without bounds.
